Early Years Learning Framework

The educational programs at Holy Family Child Care Centre are underpinned by “Belonging, Being and Becoming”, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in Australia.

EYLF is the Australian Government’s national framework for early childhood education, and it is the key component of the National Quality Framework (NQF) that has been designed to encourage continuous improvement of education and care in all services throughout Australia.

The EYLF defines the principles, practices and outcomes to every early learning program and is designed to ensure all children from birth to five years and beyond will receive high quality learning experiences.

The EYLF has a strong emphasis on play-based learning, whilst also recognising the importance of communication and language and social and emotional development through the following learning outcomes:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  4. Children are confident and involved learners
  5. Children are effective communicators

Holy Family Child Care Centre provides specialized Kindergarten and preschool programs designed for children aged 3 to 5 and are developed in accordance with EYLF. These programs are taught by qualified early childhood educators and bachelor-qualified teachers.

As part of this specialized program, children are engaged in play based learning to develop early literacy and numeracy concepts and communication skills which will help their reading and writing abilities and give each child the important skills needed to help them enter school with confidence.

The program is structured in such a way that the children are offered choices within the structure. Our program is designed to enhance and foster the development of each child, in all areas of learning-physical, social, emotional, intellectual, language and creative. The program is planned from knowledge and understanding of child development, respective of each child’s individual development. Each child is unique and develops at their own pace. Routines are incorporated into the daily program, providing the children with a sense of security and stability.

The staff facilitates children’s learning and development through a flexible program, creating a stimulating and supportive environment. As children learn through hands on experience and exploration, they may think that they are only playing and having fun, while they are, in fact, encouraged to make free choices and to learn self-discipline by choosing their own play activities. Sharing and cooperation are very much encouraged.

The way a day begins can set the tone for everything! The flexibility of the Centre’s daily program and the variety of materials used, encourages the children to explore, experiment, discover, create and interact with one another in innumerable ways. This then provides a fertile setting for ‘learning’ of many different ways and levels to take place.

The program aims to assist children to acquire new skills and knowledge through: problem solving; reasoning; learning to get along with various temperaments, personalities and cultures; giving and receiving; making friends and respecting others. It also helps the child/ren to learn to take responsibility and care towards the play-equipment; develop an understanding of concepts about themselves, others and the world around them, thus developing into independent, confident and inquisitive learners.
